Joanne Boon Thomas: Watercolour Artist & Tutor

A Little Bit About Me….

I am experienced professional artist and tutor, with a life-long love of painting and drawing and a passion for nurturing those skills in others. I derive immense pleasure from helping others to discover the endless joys (and occasional frustrations) of painting, and to progress, whether taking their first tentative steps or are seeking to develop their technique and style.

As a tutor my goal is to do so much more than demonstrate and pass on my knowledge. I regard it as my role to understand my students aims, and fears, to help them to achieve the former and to lose the latter, to encourage, and to make it fun. I get unbelievably excited and proud when I see students blossoming.

My students tell me that my patience is endless and that my enthusiasm is infectious. Perhaps that is because I genuinely believe that anyone can learn to paint, it just takes the desire, tuition and plenty of persistence, and the knowledge that art is so very good for the soul.

I would like to invite you to join me at ‘Le Vieux Couvent’ for an artistic painting holiday full of old medieval towns, villages, rivers, castles, and superb fields of flowers.   Located in the ‘Lot Region’ of Southwestern France. This 17th century former convent is nestled in the rural town of Frayssinet.

Experience the French countryside with me and one that has inspired artists for thousands of years. The itinerary isn’t written in stone, but typically includes traveling the Dordogne region in air-conditioned vans to the chosen painting sites – Charming villages like St. Cirq la Popie high above Le Lot river, the dramatic and historic pilgrimage site of Rocamadour, peaceful riverbanks and lakes, the colorful market of Souillac and Cahors, the fortress of Chateau Baynac, St. Chamarand, the Pech Merle Caves to view ancient cave art, wineries, and much more of the French country side.

Art Tuition

What’s included in the Creative watercolour painting holiday Workshops –

I will demonstrate daily, using a variety of techniques, methods and creative thinking. Offering helpful, one-on-one guidance throughout each day of the holiday workshop, I will focus on various inspirational ways that will help you improve your approach to your paintings; teaching value, colour, composition, a variety of painting techniques and making your painting experiences exciting and fulfilling.

Your days will be filled with excursions to neighbouring towns and countryside, beautiful and inspiring giving you time to sketch, explore and photograph on location. There will be opportunities for plein air painting around the grounds of Le Vieux Grounds, Upon return of excursions we will have the studio full of natural light to share and recapture our experiences with watercolour.

At some point during your holiday, you will be introduced to another medium which I love working with ’Brusho’. There’s no other product like Brusho in the world and I am very proud to say that I am the leading pioneer in this medium.  It has completely unique qualities that make it unpredictable and fun and ideal for anyone that wants to create loose, impressionistic and vibrant artwork. Brusho allows you to create visually stunning, expressive artwork with the minimum of fuss. It’s fun to use, beginner-friendly and ideal if you want to learn how to create very contemporary, very striking images to hang on your wall.

Because it’s so loose and expressive, it can be faster to learn than traditional watercolour painting (you have no choice but to let the paint do the work). And whereas Watercolour painting can be stressful at times (lots of opportunity for the painting to go wrong), with My unique technique of using Brusho there aren’t really any errors to be made.

This workshop is limited to 12 artists, In order to allow myself ample individual time for each student artist. My holiday workshops are designed to accommodate all levels of ability, whether an experienced painter or novice painter.
