Painting Holiday with Barbara Barrett and Rita Carpenter
Barbara is passionate about the medium of watercolour, and loves teaching and sharing her joy.
Barbara will provide lessons for the studio and will demo both in the studio and on location in the many picturesque French villages and towns in the area. Each day will be filled with exceptional experiences and painting pleasure. If you don’t wish to paint on location, pack a sketch book and record your experiences. Lets make memories!
A magical retreat to the most picturesque part of France. Well,… all of France is beautiful, however this is a very special place, Le Vieux Couvent in Frayssinet, an absolute artists dream. We will immerse ourselves in culture, colours and creativity. Our home for 10 days is the converted 17th Century convent. The gardens overflow with abundant blooms, and the village invites us to walk in the early morning to hear the bird song and the sound of the Church bells.
Bring your swim suit, we have two swimming pools to play in, or lounge by.
We have a well appointed studio dedicated to our creativity, we can loose ourselves in our art while salivating for the cuisine that Corinne is conjuring up in the kitchen..
Yes, the Food is fabulous. The chefs live to cook, love to cook, putting the added essential ingredient of love into all her meals.
We will visit nearby villages and towns, with their french markets, old buildings and painterly streets. We might have a picnic one day next to one of the rivers flowing through the Dordogne. Maybe where Monet, Seurat, Renoir or Pissaro painted?
September is a wonderful month to visit, we miss the oppressive heat of mid summer and absorb the mild and mellow days, a lovely time of year to visit France.
Come home with wonderful watercolour memories of this magical place. I will be delighted if you can join me on this artists retreat.
Rita has been involved with the Janesville Art League for over 10 years. During this time she held many positions: Secretary, United Art Alliance Liaison, Co-President of restoration on oil painting, and Vice -President of events. She was on the JAL Board for several years and now is a board member for the Wisconsin Regional Art Association. She has won Honorable Mention for her art and a State award for her photography. She has had her art in the JAL calendar and has judged art for an elementary school in Janesville, WI.
In my art, I like to capture the beauty in the people and places around me. Whether I am traveling or at home, I try to create an atmosphere that will allow me to be “in the moment”. My work begins with photography and moves into watercolor and moves into watercolor and collage. Art creation is a way to give myself a voice without speaking.
